We look forward to welcoming you to the Philip Johnson Glass House located in New Canaan, Connecticut. The 49-acre site contains 14 structures including the architect’s personal residence – the Glass House. Tours of the Glass House site run annually from May 1 to November 30 (closed Tuesday and Wednesday). Tickets are required for admission and advance reservations are highly recommended. All ticket sales are final. Members of the National Trust for Historic Preservation will receive a $15 discount on Pure Glass House and Site Tour tickets. Please present your NTHP membership card upon check-in at the Visitor Center to receive your discount.

All tours begin at the Visitor Center located at 199 Elm Street in downtown New Canaan, CT. The Visitor Center is located directly across from the New Canaan train station. Walk towards the brick building, bear right, and walk to the rear of the parking lot. Enter the Visitor Center down the ramp to the left.  Please check-in 20 minutes prior to the start of your tour.

Current Site Preservation Work:
The Brick House remains closed for restoration. Learn more about this project here.

Parking
Important Notice:  Public parking is NOT available at the Visitor Center.  Parking is located one block from the Visitor Center in three municipal metered lots. We urge you to purchase a daily parking pass ($3.00 each) if you are visiting the Glass House on a weekday. If you do not purchase a pass, you will need quarters for metered parking, at a rate of $.50/hour. Parking passes are available at the time of ticket purchase, when you buy your Glass House tickets online, or by telephone (203-594-9884 x0). Passes allow all-day parking and the ability to enjoy downtown New Canaan restaurants and shops at your leisure.  Parking passes are not necessary for weekend or evening tours.  Guests with special needs guests should contact Glass House in advance to arrange for use of our extremely limited parking spaces.

Check-in: Please arrive at the Visitor Center at least 20-minutes prior to your scheduled tour departure to check-in.
A wide selection of architecture, landscape, and design books are available in the Visitor Center + Design Store. Remember to bring your online ticket code or a print-out of your confirmation.

Dress Code + Weather: Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking outdoors. Site and Extended Tours include a 3/4 mile (1.2 km) walk through the site including hills, grass, and gravel paths. Terrain is uneven in places. Tours take place rain or shine. In the event of rain, umbrellas are provided for visitor use.

Extreme Weather Policy:  The Glass House is primarily an outdoor experience and the safety of our guests is paramount. While tours will run rain or shine, in the case of extreme weather (severe thunderstorms and lightning, tornado warnings, snow, ice) tours may be interrupted, delayed or cancelled. Visitor Center staff will do their best to give advance notice, but this is not always possible. In the event that the Glass House cancels your tour for weather-related issues, we will endeavor to reschedule for a convenient date and time. If rescheduling a tour cancelled by the Glass House is not possible, the Glass House will offer visitors a refund for their tickets.

Children: Tours are recommended for children ages 10 and above based on tour content and duration. For the comfort and safety of all visitors, children must be six years of age to accompany adults on a Glass House tour. All children must have a tour ticket and be supervised by an adult at all times. Children requiring car seats (per CT State law: under six years old or under 60 pounds) are not allowed as the Glass House operating permit requires all visitors to be transported to the site in a Glass House shuttle. Private cars and car seats can not be accommodated for safety reasons.

Accessibility: The Glass House welcomes all visitors, but please note the tour is a walk of 3/4 miles in uneven terrain with limited seating. Please alert the Glass House staff of any special needs in advance of your visit so we are best able to serve you. Limited parking is available at the Visitor Center for guests with special needs; please contact us in advance to arrange for a space. If necessary, a motorized cart (driven by a staff member) is available for guests.
