– Tours are taken to and from the site in a shuttle from the Visitor Center.
Children
– All children must be at least eight years old to participate in tours and must be accompanied by an adult. We regret that car seat regulations regarding the use of car seats in the shuttle bus that transports all tours to and from the site prevent us from transporting any infants and younger children to the site.
Parking
– No parking is available at the Visitor Center. All guests should use New Canaan Public Parking. Free parking is available after 10:30am in the Lumberyard Lot – a municipal lot at 244 Elm Street (across the street from the Karl Chevrolet Dealership), approximately a five-minute walk from the Visitor Center. Please note that while other parking lots are available in New Canaan, the lot at 244 Elm Street is recommended for visitor use. Please click here for all other available parking areas in New Canaan.
– Special note for visitors on the 9:45am and 10:30am tour on Monday, Thursday and Friday – please park in the municipal lot on Park Street, the entrance is on your right immediately after passing the building at 72 Park Street. This lot allows free parking for up to three hours.

– Guests with special needs should contact us in advance to arrange for use of our limited parking spaces at the Visitor Center.
Train
– Transportation by train is easily accessible from New York City and the eastern seaboard along the Metro North New Haven line.
– The Visitor Center is located across the street from the New Canaan train station.
– Please note that you may need to transfer trains in Stamford, CT to the New Canaan extension line during off-peak hours.
– Special note for visitors travelling via train on the weekend – The New Canaan Branch of the Metro-North train line will be closed for track repairs on weekends through Sunday, June 7. The New Canaan line connects New Canaan and Stamford, a transfer point for trips originating from New York City and New Haven.
– During this time, Metro-North will provide bus service between the Stamford train station and New Canaan. This free bus service will add a minimum of 30 minutes or more to the travel time between New York City and New Canaan. A schedule of bus service replacing trains provided by Metro-North can be found here. Please plan your travel time accordingly. Late arrivals are not guaranteed tour access.
– If you are traveling from New York City, and you would like an alternative to the bus service, we would like to suggest the following options:
• Purchase a ticket to the Darien, CT train station (one stop beyond Stamford) and take a taxi or Uber/Lyft to New Canaan (approximately 6 miles, 15-minute ride). The address of the Visitor Center + Design Store is 199 Elm Street, New Canaan, CT 06840.
• Take a taxi or Uber/Lyft from the Stamford train station to New Canaan (approximately 10 miles, 30-minute ride). The address of the Visitor Center + Design Store is 199 Elm Street, New Canaan, CT 06840.
• If you have access to a car, forgo the train and drive directly to New Canaan.
