Glass House Presents: Evolution of Architectural Photography
This program was offered in alliance with the Farnsworth House’s exhibition, Side by Side: The Farnsworth House + The Philip Johnson Glass House, which presents the photography of Robin Hill.
This talk considered how such renowned masterworks of modern architecture have been photographed over time and the effect this has on our understanding of architecture. While both the Farnsworth House and Johnson’s Glass House seem similar and well known, there are still powerful and artistic opportunities to reinterpret these sites and to understand the essential differences between these landmarks of modernism in the United States.
Participants include: Robin Hill, photographer; Hilary Lewis, Chief Curator & Creative Director, The Glass House; Scott Mehaffey, Executive Director, Farnsworth House; and Michelangelo Sabatino, Professor and Director PhD Program in Architecture, College of Architecture, Illinois Institute of Technology.
Glass House Presents is an ongoing series of talks, performances, and other live events that extend the site’s historic role as a gathering place for artists, architects, and other creative minds. This talk is supported in part by Connecticut Humanities and the New Canaan Community Foundation.
