Sinfonietta Cracovia, one of Europe’s premiere chamber orchestras, will present their flagship project combining the film and concert music of two great composers—Philip Glass and Wojciech Kilar—as part of their international tour.
Wojciech Kilar composed film music and is known for many masterpieces of Polish cinema. He is perhaps best known abroad as the composer of Jane Campion’s The Portrait of a Lady and Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. Known for his avant-garde work in the 1960s and 70s, Philip Glass was nominated for three Academy Awards for Notes on a Scandal, The Hours, and Kundun.
Led by the orchestra’s principal conductor Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, the concert includes a performance by the young Polish pianist and composer Aleksander Dębicz.
Glass House Presents is an ongoing series of talks, performances, and other live events that extend the site’s historic role as a gathering place for artists, architects, and other creative minds.
The Friends of Music at St. Mark’s enrich the life of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the broader community through the promotion of music and other artistic events.
This concert is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, and presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute New York and Supertrain Records. The tour is co-organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute within the “Programme of events accompanying the celebration of Wojciech Kilar’s 90th birthday (2022) and the 10th anniversary of his death (2023)”.
