Visitor Policies

  • Parking

Public parking is NOT available at the Visitor Center.

Parking is located one block from the Visitor Center in three municipal metered lots.

Daily parking passes ($4.00) are available which allow for all day parking in metered lots. We recommend purchasing a parking pass with your tickets when making reservations either online or via phone. Parking passes are recommended if visiting on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. All parking is free on Sunday.

*Please print your E-ticket which includes the pre-paid parking pass and place on the dashboard of your car when parking in the recommended lots.

Otherwise, parking lots are metered at a rate of $1.00/hour payable by cash or credit card at the parking lot kiosk.

Guests with special needs should contact us in advance to arrange for use of our limited parking spaces.

  • Tickets / Check-in

Tickets are required for admission and advance reservations are highly recommended.

All ticket sales are final. No refunds or date exchanges will be issued.

Please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your tour’s scheduled start time to check-in at the Visitor Center. Latecomers will be admitted at the discretion of site management and are not guaranteed site access.

Visitors arriving late for their tour may not be guaranteed site access. Late arrival may result in a partial or truncated tour.

All tours begin at the Glass House Visitor Center, located at 199 Elm Street, New Canaan, CT.

Please note all visitors must arrive and depart the site with Glass House staff in a shuttle.

Visitors who approach the site directly in private vehicles, taxis, or Uber / Lyft vehicles will be routed back to the Visitor Center by site management.

  • Dress Code

Weather appropriate and comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended.

Tours include a 3/4 mile – 1 mile (1.2 – 1.6 km) walk outdoors through the site including hills, grass, and gravel paths.

Tours take place rain or shine. In the event of rain, please bring umbrellas, rain coats, etc.

  • Extreme Weather Policy

The Glass House is primarily an outdoor experience and the safety of our guests is paramount.

While tours will run rain or shine, in the case of extreme weather (severe thunderstorms and lightning, tornado warnings, snow, ice) tours may be interrupted, delayed or cancelled.

In the event that the Glass House cancels your tour for weather-related issues, we will endeavor to reschedule for a convenient date and time.

If it is not possible to reschedule a tour cancelled by the Glass House due to weather, a refund will be issued.

  • Children

Children (including infants) must be aged 10 and above to participate in tours.

All children must have a tour ticket and be supervised by an adult at all times.

Connecticut state law requires children to use car seats while travelling in our shuttle bus. We are not permitted to install / de-install car seats in our shuttle bus for visitor use.

  • Accessibility

The Glass House welcomes all visitors, but please note the tour is a walk of 3/4 miles in uneven terrain with very limited seating.

Please alert the Glass House staff of any special needs in advance of your visit so we are best able to serve you.

Limited parking is available at the Visitor Center for guests with special needs; please contact us in advance to arrange for a space.

If necessary, a motorized cart (driven by a staff member) is available for guests.
