Student Social Justice Art Showcase
Stand Together Against Racism (S.T.A.R), in association with The Glass House, presents:
Through Your Looking Glass: The Intersection of Art, Design and Architecture on Social Justice
Middle & High School Student Art Showcase to be held on October 15, 2022 from 12:00-2:00pm at the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society
Call for entries!! This Youth Art Showcase seeks to recognize the role of art, design and/or architecture in advancing social justice related to diversity, equity and inclusion. More information and registration details are available via the S.T.A.R. website here.
Middle and High school students, based in Fairfield County, CT, (grades 6-12 as of 9/2022) are invited to create and submit art that reflects, through their eyes, how racial inequality impacts their lives or the lives of people they know…and how they feel about it. We seek art submissions that challenge and inspire the viewer to think about social justice in new ways.
Art can include paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, sculpture, videos/film (including TikTok style) or architectural renderings.
This is a true showcase, not a contest. All participants will have the opportunity to share and discuss their work with each other and will learn from a leading social justice artist via a Zoom call.
All participants will also benefit from having their work featured at an in-person Showcase celebration on October 15 as well as a special invitation to visit The Glass House, a National Trust Historic Site in New Canaan. The Showcase exhibit will remain on-view until October 29.
We look forward to seeing the creative output from local students and to hear the stories and thoughts about Social Justice that led to the art! Fill out the registration form to let us know you plan to submit then get started on your creation.
